Chinese Supercomputer

Daily News wire-China is built a new supercomputer that has proved the strength of its technological prowess to the world. The supercomputer that is said to be the fastest in the world could set-off alarms about U.S. technological prowess and competitiveness.
The new computer called Tianhe-1A has been built by China’s National University of Defense Technology has used a combination of graphic chips supplied by Nvidia and microprocessors supplied by Intel. The new supercomputer is an extremely powerful machine can solve the most difficult scientific problems, stimulate defence related applications and break computer codes. These computers can also be used by gas companies to find reservoirs. These activities were the domain of U.S. companies that had supercomputers to help them achieve their goals.
The supercomputer developed by China is 40 percent faster than its closest rival Jaguar that is housed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Chinese Supercomputer can perform 2.5 petaflops which is measure to calculate speed that translates into 1000 trillion operations per second. China has put in trillions of dollars into research and development of these supercomputers.
This is not the first attempt by China to make supercomputer. Last June, China had placed 24 computers in the Top 500 supercomputer ranking. One of its systems Nebulae secured the second spot in the list of fastest computers of the world. Incidentally, Nebulae is also built using graphic chips from Nvidia and microprocessors from Intel.
